Editorial Standards
Cherokee County Gazette adheres to the editorial standards of The Georgia Gazette network. This page describes how we report, source, and correct our coverage.
Sourcing
Stories about arrests, charges, court proceedings, and similar matters are sourced from public records: incident reports, booking sheets, indictments, dockets, and on-the-record statements from authorities. We name our sources whenever it is appropriate to do so.
Reporting an arrest does not imply guilt. Charges described in our coverage are allegations until proven beyond reasonable doubt in court. We aim to follow significant matters through to their disposition.
Verification
We confirm names, dates, charges, and other identifying details against primary public records before publishing. Where a fact cannot be independently verified, we say so.
Corrections
Errors are addressed promptly. Substantive corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected article with the date of the correction and a brief description of what was changed. Minor typographic fixes are made without notice.
To request a correction, email [email protected].
Conflicts of interest
Reporters and editors who have a personal, financial, or familial connection to a person or organization in a story do not work on that story.
Right of reply
Subjects of our reporting who feel their position has been misrepresented may submit a response in writing to [email protected]. We consider all such submissions in good faith.
Independence
Cherokee County Gazette is editorially independent. Advertising relationships, including via Ezoic and similar networks, do not influence coverage decisions.
