Mitchell Navarro indicted on rape, kidnapping charges in Cherokee County

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A man booked into the Cherokee County jail in March 2026 on charges of rape, simple battery, kidnapping and false imprisonment had those charges formally confirmed by a grand jury indictment in June, court records show.

Mitchell Navarro was booked March 15, 2026, according to booking records. His case carries docket number 26CR0588 in Cherokee Superior Court.

The initial incident report traces to October 2023, when a woman whose name was redacted in the report came to the Hickory Flat Precinct to report a sexual battery, according to the officer’s narrative. She requested a female deputy to take her statement, and a detective advised the responding officer to gather only a basic account so the woman would need to recount the events only once, the officer wrote.

According to the narrative, the woman said she had met Navarro in May 2023 and that since that time he had made repeated jokes or threats about sabotaging condoms in order to make her pregnant. She also described a pattern of verbal and emotional abuse throughout the relationship, the officer wrote.

The woman told the officer that in mid-to-late September 2023, Navarro prevented her from leaving his residence on the 100 block of Colemans Bluff by standing in front of the front door, according to the narrative. She said the alleged sexual battery occurred both at that address and at an Airbnb in Blue Ridge, Ga.

The woman told the officer she had no physical evidence such as clothing or bed sheets to turn over but said she had retained text messages on her cell phone from Navarro, according to the report. The officer advised her to contact law enforcement if Navarro approached her and she felt unsafe, and also provided information on obtaining a Temporary Protection Order.

After his March 2026 booking, Navarro filed a motion for bond and waived his right to court-appointed counsel, court records show. The court denied the bond motion April 1, ordering Navarro to remain in custody pending trial. A second bond motion was filed May 29, 2026.

A grand jury returned an indictment June 9, 2026, formally charging Navarro with rape, simple battery, kidnapping and false imprisonment, court records show. Attorney Jeffrey Heller entered the case as substituted counsel in April, and prosecutor Rachel M. Ashe was appointed to the case in late April.

Navarro’s case was placed on the criminal arraignment calendar for July 8, 2026, according to court records. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
